New Congestion Charges for 2020
At the beginning of next year, Birmingham & Leeds will see congestion charges being introduced similar to what is already in place in London. The "Clean Air Zones" is a bid by the government to reduce emissions and improve air quality in busy cities.
Leeds Clean Air Zone
Private motorists & Light Goods Vehicles will not be charged but non-compliant HGV's, Buses, Coaches, Taxis & Private Hire vehicles that do not meet the emissions standards will be charged daily when driving with the boundary.
Non-Compliant Buses Coaches & HGV's - £50 Daily Charge
Non-Compliant Taxis & Private Hire Vehicles - £12.50 Daily Charge
Birmingham Clean Air Zone
All Cars, Taxis, Private hire & LGV's will be charged £8.00 per day if the vehicle doesn't meet the emissions standard. HGV's, coaches & buses are charged at £50 per day. To avoid the charges your vehicle must meet the minimum below
Diesel – Euro 6 (VI) standard or better (most new registrations after 1 September 2015)
Petrol or LPG added to original petrol engine – Euro 4 standard or better (most new registrations after 1 January 2006)
Gas – Euro 6 (VI) standard or better
Fully electric or hydrogen fuel cell – all are compliant and avoid CAZ charges
Hybrid electric – the diesel/petrol engine must meet the relevant criteria above
All motorcycles are permitted into the zone with no charge.
